1986, German lang., 60 min. - Your host, former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, takes us on a tour through Hamburg, the city where he was born and raised.
Der Mann ist Helmut Schmidt und die Stadt ist Hamburg, seine Geburtsstadt, in der er aufgewachsen ist, Senator war und wohin er waehrend seiner Amtszeit als Bundeskanzler (1974 - 1982) die Grossen der Welt einlud, wenn sie in der Bundesrepublik Station machten. Helmut Schmidt liebt seine Heimatstadt, aber die Liebe hat ihn nicht blind gemacht. Sein kritischer Blick sieht auch ihre Probleme und Schattenseiten. Der Film handelt nicht nur von der Gegenwart, die Geschichte der Stadt spielt eine fast ebenso grosse Rolle - von den Tagen der Hanse ueber die "Franzosenzeit" bis zu den Bombennaechten von 1943 und weiter zur Flutkatastrophe von 1962; kein landlaeufiges Staedteportrait, sondern ein sehr persoenliches Bekenntnis.

Karlsruhe 1945   
German language, documentary, b/w, 1989, ca. 45 min. This documentary begins with a review of the city’s historical highlights: the 1907 funeral of Grand Duke Friedrich the First of Baden, with Kaiser Wilhelm the Second and 21 German princess accompanying the coffin; scenes from the carnival festivals of the ‘20s and ‘30s; the National Socialist Party regional meeting with Hitler, Goring, and Goebbels in attendance. During the Second World War Karlsruhe was destroyed in 53 air raids, and 2,000 people perished. In 1947 the Marshall Plan stimulated the rebuilding of the city. An account of these events is given by Prime Minister Reinhold Maier.

Lake Bodensee
German lang., 60 min. - Das "Schwaebische Meer" ist der drittgroesste See Mitteleuropas, an den Oesterreich, Schweiz und die Bundesrepublik Deutschland grenzen. Die Video-Reise fuehrt entlang der 168 Uferkilometer der deutschen Seite. Einzige Ausnahme ist der Rheinfall bei Schaffhausen/Schweiz, Europas groesster Wasserfall. Die groesste Stadt am Bodensee ist Konstanz. Das markanteste Stadtbild besitzt das auf einer Insel erbaute Lindau. Die kleineren Staedte wie Meersburg und Ueberlingen glaenzen mit ihren romantischen Gassen, Strassen und schmucken Plaetzen. Weiter sehen wir Hagnau, Eriskirch, Kressbronn, die alten Montfortstaedtchen Langenargen und Tettnang und die malerisch gelegene Halbinsel Wasserburg. Lipizzaner From Austria
English lang., 40 min. - The Lipizzaner are the oldest cultivated breed of horse in Europe. For hundreds of years they served Emperors and Queens in battle and on the parade ground. During the Era of the Austria-Hungarian Empire they were bred with great care. Originating from the now Yugoslavian village of Lipizza, the Lipizzaner horses branched were to be found all over the monarchy. A unique, unparalleled species was born. The disintegration of the Habsburg Monarchy very nearly led to extinction of the Lipizzaner breed. Piber - which is one of the few studs open to the public - succeeded in saving those horses that had survived in Austria. There are only 400 Lippizaner mares suitable for breeding in the whole world. Approximately a 100 of them, are in the Piber stud. The breeders work from Guidelines set down more than 2000 years ago by the ancient Greeks. The result is the unique creatures now performing in the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.

Obwohl sie zu den bekanntesten Regionen Deutschlands zaehlt, ist sie dennoch den meisten verborgen geblieben. Wir stellen die Lueneburger Heide musikalisch vor. Zu den Mitwirkenden zaehlen z. B. die Rotenburger Stadkantorei, das Blancke-Trio, die Volkstanzgruppe De Beekscheepers, das Forum-Ensemble Cum Tempore, Anke Gerkens, der Spielmannszug Kirchwaldsede und De Weilhaut.

We ship via UPS and most orders are processed and leave our store the same day they are received. We also include an order form on which to place your next order if you so desire. There is aboslutely no obligation to rent more videos. The shipping container is usually suitable for use to return your tapes to us. We even enclose a mailing label with our address and your return address which may be placed on the container when you return your tapes. What could be easier?
